How Do Pro Baseball Players Take Care of Their Skin?
How do pro baseball players Mike Trout, Miguel Cabrera, Paul Goldschmidt and Andrew McCutchen take care of their skin? Well, they weren’t available for comment, but here’s what we would suggest given their age, locale and occupation.
The single most important thing all of these pro ballers, who spend a majority of their days outside, can do is wear sun protection. A good physical block like zinc will help prevent damaging rays from penetrating the skin (and skin cancer), and help stave off those brown spots (also known as liver or age spots) and fine lines and wrinkles from appearing.
The other essential is proper cleansing. These guys are continually subject to dirt and sweat, which gets trapped by their hats on the forehead area. Cleansing daily for 1 to 2 minutes with warm water and a cloth will help prevent buildup and breakouts. It will also allow any products you apply afterwards to actually penetrate the skin and do their job.
Now let’s delve into each of these player’s prescribed skin care treatments:
Miguel Cabrera
Cabrera is 30 years old, hails from Venezuela and lives in Michigan. These three components are important to consider. While still young, he may want to incorporate a skin-firming serum into his routine, and with frigid winters and humid summers, exfoliation and toning will be key. Finally, since he has a darker skin tone, he will also need to use caution to protect his skin. Darker toned skin is more susceptible to discoloration from UV rays.
Recommended routine:
- Cleanse with a gentle cleanser containing hydrating ingredients like Shea butter
- Apply a non-greasy antioxidant and skin firming peptide serum
- Exfoliate using a granular scrub – bamboo or jojoba beads work well
- Finish with sun protection
Mike Trout
Since Trout is only 22, a strong anti-aging regimen is not necessary, but prevention is. He lives in Southern California and has fair skin so protection from the sun will be extremely important. A simple routine of cleanse, tone, protect will do the trick.
Recommended routine:
- Cleanse with a mineral wash
- Use a skin-strengthening toner with stone extracts and peptides
- Load up on the sun protection
Paul Goldschmidt
Goldschmidt also may not need to worry too much about aging at just 26, but prevention will be essential. Playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks his skin is subject to an extremely dry climate, so cleansing and hydration will be important.
Recommended routine:
- Cleanse with a gentle purifying mineral wash
- Apply a hydrating serum containing heavy waters, grape seed extract and soybean oil
- Sun protection is also essential in Arizona
Andrew McCutchen
At age 27 he may want to start incorporating some skin-building antioxidants. Like Cabrera, McCutchen also experiences humid and frigid weather living in Pennsylvania, making exfoliation and toning important. One other feature of McCutchen is his facial hair (sometimes there, sometimes not). For this a badger brush, shave gel and shave oil will be key. These will also help with the exfoliation and antioxidants his skin needs.
Recommended routine:
- Cleanse with an energizing, salicylic and lactic acid based cleanser
- Shave using an aloe and glycerin-based gel applied with a badger brush to exfoliate the skin
- After shaving, apply an antioxidant rich shave oil
- Finish with sun protection
Do you match up with any of these guys? Even if you aren’t out on the field day in and day out, these routines will bode well for your skin too. So step up your routine and care for your skin like a pro baller.
